Adware is one of the most annoying types of malware. It’s name comes from the combination of “Advertisements” and “Malware”.
Adware is typically one of the less malicious forms of malware, but it’s still a pain to deal with. Generally, it forces a tremendous amount of advertisements on a computer or device in order to generate revenue for an attacker.
Sometimes, you’ll also notice these in the below ways:
- simple popups in the corner of your computer such as links to seemingly nice websites
- tons of popups in free apps on mobile devices
- redirects in browsers when you go to search (sometimes these are naughty websites!)
- fake browser download/update popups on your device (these can be very malicious!)
